Mission statement

The ‘Democratic Youth Network’ is an interregional network that serves as a forum for young leaders and activists from diverse backgrounds to discuss shared political and institutional obstacles to and opportunities for democratic reform. It is a resource and platform for building mutual understanding and cooperation, fostering inter-regional dialogue, and creating a supportive environment for the participation of politically active young people.

Origins of this Site

This idea for this site came from with young European and Eurasian political leaders at a 2005 seminar in Lake Ohrid, Macedonia.  62 participants from 17 countries and regions gathered to share best practices, build relationships and develop specific action plans to encourage political and civic involvement among youth in their home countries.  In September 2006, participants in a political leadership seminar in Chisinau, Moldova built the Democratic Youth Network website during their four day program. Since March 31st 2008, DYN website has been administered by Youth Initiative for Human Rights (YIHR). YIHR is a regional non-governmental organisation with programmes in the territories of Serbia, Kosovo, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. YIHR was formed by young people from these countries in order to enhance youth participation in democratisation of the society and empowerment of the rule of law.
